The cancer cells were then harvested and analyzed using mass spectrometry and other methods. Cordyceps was shown to inhibit cancer cell growth in a dose-dependent manner. This reduction of cancer cell proliferation was significant as the Cordyceps targeted specific proteins in the cancer cells’ growth mechanism. The researchers concluded that water extract of Cordyceps cicadae reduced the human liver cancer cell growth via cell cycle arrest.
