Think and Grow Rich With A Pleasing Personality With Gano Life Part 2
Common Habits Which Destroy A Pleasing Personality: 1. Breaking in and running away with a conversation when others a speaking. 2. Sarcasm expressed by insinuations and wise cracks which are not so wise. 3. Vanity expressed by either words or action is sure to make one unpopular. 4. Indifference in listening while others are speaking is sure to be noted and resented. It is more profitable to be a good listener than to be a good talker, because you are apt to learn something while listening to others but never learn anything by hearing yourself talk. 5. The attempt to flatter where flattery is obviously not deserved will bring quick resentment from others. Also, it will put them on notice that the flatterer also want something. 6. The habit of finding fault with the world at large and the people in general is never a popular habit. It is far better to direct a conversation to things that are right than to those things which one believes to be wrong. 7. One of the worst habits to a pleasing personality is openly and directly challenging those with whom one does not agree, where there is not obvious reason to do so, except the desire to be on the opposite side. 8. The habit of volunteering unsolicited advice to others who have not requested it, can make one an intolerable bore. Free advice is usually considered worth just what it costs, which is nothing but the patience with which to listen to it. 9. Speaking of one's physical ailments, worry, and personal problems may be tolerated by others, but this habit will never make one welcome or pleasing. If you want to make yourself welcome in relations to others, talk about things which are interesting to others to which you are speaking. You will never be boring to the person to which you are speaking to and the things which interest them. 10. The habit of endeavoring to convey an impression of superiority through the use of words and topics unfamiliar to others is a sure destroyer of popularity. 11. Envy of those which are successful is a habit which destroy a pleasing personality. The truly great men and women have all been known to be generous, sympathetic, and joyous in connection with the good fortune of others. 12. Sullenness in clothes and posture never attracts but always repel others. Clothes make not the man, but they sure do give him a good start. Remember this. If you are not liked by other people, you may be sure there is a reason, which you can detect and correct. It is unnatural for one person to dislike another person without a cause. It takes courage and honesty with yourself. A pleasing personality is at the top of the list of assets and makes one truly rich. Andrew Carnegie paid Charles Schwab $75 thousand a year salary for his work but, gave him a bonus of a $1 million bonus for his pleasing personality.
